CYCLONE FILTRATION OVERVIEW
The cyclone, in conjunction with Scale-buster®
in the recirculation system, can take small and low specific
gravity particles and gradually increase their particle sizes, to
a level at which they can easily be removed from the system and
flushed to drain. Such a system can be used in numerous areas, such
as: hot-water systems in protecting calorifiers, gas-fired water
heaters, central-heating systems and chilled water systems.
Centrifugal separators performance data
Performance
The performance of the separator is determined by the difference
in weight (Specific Gravity (S.G.)) between the solids and the liquid
involved. With sand (S.G. 2.6) and water (S.G. 1.0), performance
is rated at 98% of 74 microns and larger. Given solids of heavier
specific gravity or liquids of less, even greater performance is
relatively predictable.
Improved performance when re-circulating
liquids
The continuous re-circulation of a system's liquid through the separator
will predictably and noticeably increase the separators performance.
Proven in lab tests and actual applications, the
separators consistently remove an increasing percentage of smaller
solids with each pass of a given liquid.
When re-circulating water containing systems,
with particles of a relatively high S.G. say Magnetite with an S.G.
of 5.2 or Bronze and Copper at 8.9. then it is possible to progressively
remove debris down to 5 microns.
Separator specification
The separators are fabricated from carbon steel (other materials
such as stainless are also available) and are coated with an enamel
finish (some models can have special internal coatings applied).
There are no internal moving parts to be maintained
or replaced. There is no filter media that may harbour bacteria
and requires periodic replacement.
The standard separators are designed for a maximum
pressure rating of 10 bar. Flow through the separator is maintained,
irrespective of dirt loading. Debris is flushed from the collector
bowl with a small quantity of water or is continuously collected
in a bag filter, returning all water and treatment to the system.
Pressure loss for the entire range of separators
is between 5 and 12 psi, depending on the flow through the unit:
pressure drop will not vary with debris collected.
Models are available singularly for flows between
1 and 3000m3/hour. Units can be mounted in parallel or series, for
improved flow or improved filtration, in a single pass.
